Rock is a Japanese salaryman that gets captured by a group of American pirate mercenaries. The pirates work for the Lagoon Company, an underground worldwide pirate organization. Rock's employers won't pay the pirates a ransom, they don't care if he lives or dies. He doesn't have much to go back home to, so Rock says fuck it and joins the Lagoon Company. Thus begins the bombastic world of Black Lagoon.
Black Lagoon is one of the most badass anime that you'll ever see. It has endured throughout the ages because it's fucking awesome.
