Delicious insanity. Absolute delicious insanity. Show me another show that starts with a disclaimer from the creator of the source material giving approval for each and every episode. Show me another anime that prominently features the animated version of the series director getting involved in the shenanigans of the main characters and being a part of the plot. Show me another anime with a main female lead so intense and crazy that she needed to replace her English voice actress because her vocal cords were trashed during recording! Show me an anime that takes the concept of a 4th wall and obliterates it to smithereens, shamelessly resetting the narrative over and over again when things get TOO insane. And most important of all, show me an anime that has an episode that was SO INSANE (by the standards of the time), it is literally called “Going Too Far”. Excel Saga is an example of what happens when the inmates run the insane asylum in both English and Japanese. While it’s not the most fantastic show of all time, it should totally be remembered as one of the most unapologetically ridiculous anime of the 2000s.
