*It's a bit complicated. This is an original anime in the Ghost in the Shell universe. I hesitate to say "based on" because its tone is a unique combination of both the Mamoru Oshii movie and the original manga (which is receiving a direct adaptation this year). But calling it an Original Anime feels wrong, so I guess I'll go with Manga.
