In many ways, Golden Boy is a product of its time. The story of a guy trying to learn as much as he can outside of a school environment while finding himself in wacky shenanigans and situations (mostly involving quite busty and quite sexually amorous women) feels like a ’90s storyline. That, coupled with the iconic ’90s animation style, makes this feel dated, but the characters propel it into cult classic status. Ask anyone of a certain age what character is known for saying “SO EDUCATIONAL!” and no doubt they’ll say Kentaro Oe. Also, the dub really captures the feel of early 2000s ADV with actors and actresses that the bulk of us know and love from days gone by. While some of them have no doubt left the industry, at least they have this one show about a dope on a bike with a thirst for knowledge who seemingly attracts anyone with a pulse and a vagina.
