Kaiji's not as smart as he seems. He's accumulated enough debt to get roped into gambling his life away. He's on a boat with a bunch of other men that have nothing more to lose. The first gamble of many is simple: Rock Paper Scissors. Everyone gets 3 stars and 12 cards. After 4 hours, you must have used all 12 cards and have 3 or more stars to win. Lose and you'll be forced to pay off the debt through years of manual labor. This is only the first gamble that Kaiji will have to overcome.

Kaiji is spellbinding. The direction always keeps you on your toes, it has some of my favorite music in anime, and when Kaiji's life is on the line, you're at the edge of your seat to find out what happens to him. It's intoxicating.
