In my time watching and reviewing anime, I’ve come across my share of love stories, from the subtle to the blatant, to the “What the heck could you possibly see in this person?” I’ve seen rom-coms fall victim to the same old tired cliches of “does he/she like me?”, “How should I confess my feelings to him/her?”, “Why does she keep scissors in her panties?”, and of course, “Why am I suddenly on the right hand of my love interest?”. Then this show comes along and says, “Alright, let’s cut out the bull-pocky and get right to the point”. My Love Story!! is unlike any other rom-com anime I’ve seen in quite a while…if ever. Typically, in anime like this, all the standard tropes I mentioned above are dragged out shamelessly. However, with this one, we can set aside the misunderstandings and clichés, allowing us to focus on and truly enjoy the actual relationship between Takeo and Yamato, while also witnessing how other characters approach love and relationships.
