I’m a Digimon fanboy. Always have been, always will be. I was glued to my TV every Saturday, watching the adventures of these 8 floppy-socked, big-haired dorks and their Digital Companions. However, even this diehard Digi-Fan had loads of respect and love for the Plucky kid from Pallet Town and his yellow electric rodent. Pokémon, like it or hate it, has changed the face of our society and, for a while, was the face of anime. Take away all the games, all the stories, and all the lore, and Pokémon at its core is a story about friendship, exploration, and discovery, both self and otherwise. It was about getting out there and having adventures, not knowing where the path ahead would lead you, but having fun on the way. We’ve been following the adventures of this 10-year-old boy for over the last 20 years, and even though the story may be long-winding and some might say drawn out, it can’t be denied that were it not for Ash and Pikachu, the world would look mighty different.
