Anime like Texhnolyze are why I made this website. I want to do everything in my power to make sure shows like Texhnolyze are not forgotten when the generational shift happens. There are 199 other anime listed on this website. None of them truly come close to feeling like Texhnolyze. The only one you could argue is Serial Experiments Lain, which both shows share the same writer, the same producer, and the same character designer. Except Texhnolyze feels like it was made because those three people thought Serial Experiments Lain was just too popular, too mainstream, too accessible.
Telling you the premise for Texhnolyze is not worth it. I could give you a beat by beat breakdown of the first episode and it won't prepare you for how it presents itself. No word of dialogue is spoken in the first episode until after the commercial break. Wikipedia defines Texhnolyze as an "experimental anime" and it is one of the only anime where I think that is 100% the case, especially for a TV series. This show feels more like something you'd find at the Berlin Film Festival than something you'd find in TV animation.
Texhnolyze is an anti-anime. It goes against all of your preconceived notions towards the medium. Is it a masterpiece? As of writing this, I'm not sure. However, if you believe that animation should be treated as seriously as live-action, then I think you have to at least check out Texhnolyze.
