Following in the shooting star footsteps of FLCL, Studio Gainax decided to roll us out to Osaka for our next manic adventure/metaphor for growing up. Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. I love this show because at its core, if you take away all the insanity and craziness of the world our two dorky protagonists find themselves in, this is a story about two childhood friends and the pain of having to say goodbye but not wanting to. Abenobashi, just like FLCL, is a story of growing up, and the inevitable changes that comes with it. This is a lesson that Sasshi must learn the hard way as he drags poor hapless Arumi through the multiverse. Also, can we talk about this dub, please? Luci Christian shines as Sasshi—playing a pre-teen boy is one thing, but to do so with a southern country accent? PRODIGIOUS.
