"To know peak, you must first understand trash." - Sun Tzu, probably.
Oreimo is a series that, regardless of how you come out of it, you owe it to yourself to watch at least once. It's no masterpiece, and it can be unapologetically trashy. But it represents such a specific time in anime culture, where a story about a high school boy connecting with his little sister -- a closeted otaku and middle school supermodel -- through eroge was at the forefront of weekly conversations. Where the choice of "best girl" was a verifiable war between fans that STILL results in heated debate to this day.
It's weird, it's inconsistent, it's unbelievably nerdy, and the ending is either going to be the best or worst thing you've ever seen depending on how you wanna slice it. But it's quintessentially representative of anime at its most unapologetic. It makes no excuses for what it is, and challenges you to just roll with it. And that's something worthy of your time, just on its own merits.
