Space Brothers is another one of those anime that I feel we moved on from too quickly. I suppose it doesn’t help matters much that the show ends on a somewhat abrupt note before we see our big brother Mutta get to space, which is a disappointment. Heck, even the episode count of 99 is an insult. We don’t even get a full 100 episodes! But the episodes we do get offer a fascinating and engaging look into one man’s journey to achieve his dreams. However, the story of Space Brothers, much like the act of going into space, is all about the people we encounter, their affect on our lives, and their stories all coming together under one mission—exploration. I also love that Space Brothers really stayed grounded in realism. All the locations are real places you can visit yourself. Heck, they even have our team of trainee astronauts go to a Texas Roadhouse! TEXAS ROADHOUSE! Also, can we talk about the OP’s of this show? Much like Dr. Stone, Space Brothers has a NEAR-ZERO skip OP list, which says a lot for a series with EIGHT separate themes.
