While many series require no introduction, GaoGaiGar feels like it's one that still requires some preamble. It's far from obscure, but it's not quite to the point of popularity where everyone knows what makes it great. So lemme put it this way...
How much do you like giant robots?
GaoGaiGar is the ultimate love letter to mecha. It's a rollicking sci-fi action series where a superhuman cyborg pilots a robot lion, combines with a bunch of vehicle mechs to form a bigger lion-themed super-robot, and works alongside a bunch of sentient, speaking giant vehicle robots who also form into bigger robots, all to save the world from an alien threat that feeds off people's worries and self-esteem to create hideous giant monster-robots that terrorize humanity.
If literally any part of that sounds cool to you, you can stop reading and go watch GaoGaiGar now. It's raw, unfiltered super-robot badassery from start to end, and there is never a dull moment for its entire 49-episode runtime. It's a mecha anime that LOVES the fact it's a mecha anime.
